Raised Beds with the Clueless Gardener
I’ve always been interested in gardening. As a kid growing up in Ireland I pestered my dad to let me dig up a small section of his beloved lawn and plant lettuces, carrots, and radishes. When we bought our house last fall, I knew I wanted some raised garden beds. The house was beautifully landscaped with shrubs, palms, etc but there was no vegetable garden. I’d grown tomatoes, and some greens in Oregon but was clueless as to what would grow well here in Hawaii and what pests and diseases I would encounter. I figured I had nothing to lose and for sure it would be a learning experience …

A New Beginning
Aloha friends, fellow Yogis, Gaeilgeoirs, and those of you who just stopped by my blog, I hope this finds you all keeping well. I’ve made many attempts to write this letter/blog post but just have not been able to get it done. I made the mistake of taking a course on blogging and all the technical stuff just got too overwhelming. I began to overthink it. So here goes, not paying attention to SEO or optimizing, or any of it, just getting an update out there and hopefully in the future I will be able to navigate the technical stuff a little better now that life is settling down again.…

Aloha! Hau’oli makahiki hou!
Happy New Year or should it be Happy Valentine’s Day? Either way it has been a while since I posted here. I’ve sat down and made several attempts to write but scratched it every time. A lot has happened since I last posted in November! We bought a house! We moved! We enjoyed visits from both our boys. I planted a garden. We journeyed to Oregon to sort through the storage unit and ship our belongings to Hawaii. As you can see, a busy time. The shipping container arrived in Honolulu and was delivered last week. We unloaded it in six and a half…

Is Fearr Gaeilge Bhriste ná Béarla Cliste
As an Irish and Education major is college that was our go to, “broken Irish is better than clever English” It still holds for me today, but it is seldom I get the opportunity to speak with anyone in the language of my ancestors. I was not born or raised in the Gaeltacht (Irish speaking areas of Ireland) and despite learning Irish in a much maligned school system, I have a deep love for the language. I think the difference was the respect my parents had for the language and of course the fact that my Dad was a teacher and spoke Irish fluently helped too. As a result my siblings and…

Leg Day and Life after Kids
Am I the only one who procrastinates when it comes to working out? Leg day, you’ve got to love it or hate it. Personally, I hate the thought of it, the anticipation, ensuing procrastination, but once I get to the gym and get into it, I derive a calm sense of satisfaction as I work through it slowly but surely, concentrating on form and not getting injured. Those days tend to be the ones I feel the most the next day. Follow that up with a run and you’ve got a double whammy. Not complaining though, I’ve come to a point in my life where I’m thankful for what my…

Simple Ways to Love Yourself and Improve Your Life
Let’s admit it, life is chaotic, stressful, busy, full of todo lists and as a result we are often stressed, unhappy, and tired. We would all like to be healthier and happier, yet it doesn’t just happen by itself. Just like bringing home a paycheck, one has to make it a priority and put in the effort. I think we often lose sight of that as we struggle to keep it all together, take care of the kids, work, keep up with household chores, exercise, take care of our bodies etc. Believe it or not though, it can be different. Here are some ways I have found to help change…
